Why Do We Keep
Shavuot or Pentecost?
Chag HaShavu'ot,
The Feast of Weeks, also called
Chag HaBikurim, The Feast
of First Fruits, Chag HaKatzir,
The Harvest Festival, also known as
Pentecost among the
Christians, is a memorial of the giving of the Torah, the
revelation of Yahweh's glory to mankind on Mount Sinai.
If tradition is correct, it happened
that "In the third month after the children of Israel had gone
out of Egypt, on the same day they came to the wilderness of
Sinai...Yahweh said to Moshe, 'Go to the people and sanctify
them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes. And
let them be ready for the third day. For on the third day
Yahweh will come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of the
people, Shemot (Ex.19)
"
Shavu'ot
is also shown to be the day of the outpouring of the Blessed
Spirit on Yahweh's chosen Assembly forty days after Yahshua
ascended to Heaven, the birthday of what westerners called the
Church, Acts 2.
On that Day He poured and will pour His Spirit on all flesh,
Joel 2: 28. The Bible and history clearly show that the
Apostles celebrated Shavu'ot, Pentecost,
(Acts 18:21; 20:16; 1
Cor.5:7-8; 16:7-8).
Master Yahshua ordered the Apostles to "make disciples of all
nations" and to teach them "to observe all things that I have
commanded you."
(Mat.28:19-20)
We, Messianic Hebrews practice what
we received from the Hebrew Apostles. If Yahshua
had commanded them to forsake the Hebrew Covenant, they would
not have continued to worship in accordance with Torah. We,
Hebrews, were naturally told to practice Torah from fathers to
sons. We have no choice in this matter, and we must walk in
the footsteps of the Hebrew Apostles and the sanctified
Prophets of Elohim, keeping all the Feast Days of Yahweh at
their fixed time. Gentiles who cross over, from the rebellious
side to Yahweh Law, become Hebrews, also. They are required to
follow the same ordinances as Israel, for Yahweh does not have
two different sets of rules for two different groups of
people, Shemot (
Exodus) 12: 48-49, Lev. 16:29, etc.
We keep Chag
HaShavu'ot on Torah's fixed day, not on a
rabbinical chosen day according man-made dogmas, followed by
so many, today. For more info, send for the Covenant Keepers'
Handbook.
